The Boy of Summer
Mary shot a great photo of Jared batting.

I planted a variety of seeds in the garden last fall for plants that would grow during the winter months and capture nitrogen in the roots. You can see that it worked out quite well. The mowed part looks like it might be my yard but that is actually my vegetable garden. The next step is to take a
spading fork and turn over the soil so the winter grass will die and start to compost.
Look in the background and you can see the 15 yards of compost that is waiting to be distributed throughout the yard.
Here is where I went to school for grades 2 through 6. During my time at St. Joseph’s, each classroom had one teacher and two grades. For 3rd and 4th grade, my teacher was one of my classmate’s mom.
Go Mariners!!!!
Last weekend, Jared and I bottled the wine we made from last summer’s fruit. The wine is a combination of blackberries picked in the parks and forest here on Bainbridge Island and some red plum’s picked from a tree in our yard. That very same tree is just starting to bloom. The plums have given the wine an awesome red color and some tartness. It is too tart for Mary’s taste. I’m still on the fence. Overall, it think the wine has been a success.
An update to www.go2marine.com was rolled out last night. Kudos go out to Charlene for the new design.
I have a group of buddies who travel to Canada each year and visit a cat skiing or ski touring operation. This year we signed up with Valhalla Powdercats just outside Nelson, British Columbia. It is due north of Spokane, Washington (east side of Washington state).
Valhalla Powdercats began working new terrain two years ago. I love the new terrain. It is steep with widely spaced trees. This year the snow was deep and firm enough that we could lean on it and carve some really nice turns. The combination of good snow and great terrain made this year’s trip my favorite.
Check out the photos on Flickr. I took some of them and Ali Bahrami took the rest.
